Appendicitis

Appendicitis is where the ‘worm-like’ outpouching from the bowel in the lower right abdomen (belly) becomes inflamed and infected. Everyone has an appendix but not this will not always become inflamed in everyone. Appendicitis causes acute lower right abdominal pain and fever and often means someone will attend the emergency department given the level of pain.

This is a condition which essentially requires surgery to prevent the more serious complication of perforation of the appendix. This is laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery which removes the appendix and recovery usually occurs quite rapidly.

Dr. Le Page has performed 100’s of these operations and audits the outcomes of his surgical patients. If you feel a specialist review may be indicated for you, please discuss with your GP and call (02) 9767 7908 to arrange an appointment with Dr. Le Page. Your individual circumstance will be clarified by Dr. Le Page during your review.
