Iron deficiency

Iron deficiency is quite a common problem. This will usually be diagnosed on a blood test and treated by your GP. It is caused by inadequate intake of iron containing foods, or loss of blood from the body (eg. excessive menstruation or abnormal bleeding from the bowel).

Usually your GP will determine the iron replacement therapy and if other tests are required. These tests may include a Gastroscopy and colonoscopy to check to see if there is an abnormal area bleeding into the bowel. If a polyp, for example, is found during the procedure, this can usually be removed at the time.

Dr. Le Page has performed 1000’s of these procedures, is accredited by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and audits his patients to ensure the highest standards of care. If you feel a specialist review may be indicated for you, please discuss with your GP and call (02) 9767 7908 to arrange an appointment with Dr. Le Page. Your individual circumstance will be clarified by Dr. Le Page during your review.
